Beach fires are allowed October 1 through April 30, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings only, and only at Station 22, 23 or 25. Only two fires permitted island-wide per evening. Fee: full-time residents (SC driver's license) $150 permit fee plus $250 deposit; non-residents $300 fee plus $500 deposit — fee and deposit must be two separate checks. Applicant must apply in person, be at least 21, present photo ID, and carry the physical permit during the event. Applications are accepted on Mondays for that weekend, first come first served. Fire size limited to 3 ft diameter and 3 ft high; pits may be 3x3x3 ft. Must stay 100 feet from dunes and turtle nesting areas. No treated wood, carbon-based starters or toxic materials. Fire may not be left unattended. Beach activity is prohibited after 11:00 p.m. No alcohol, smoking, glass containers or motorized vehicles on the beach. Permit holder must clean up a 100-foot radius.
