The only direct route from Mount Pleasant to Sullivan's Island. SC 703 runs from Coleman Boulevard / Chuck Dawley Boulevard out over the Ben Sawyer Memorial Bridge and lands on Middle Street. Roughly 6.5 miles and 15-20 minutes from central Mount Pleasant in normal conditions. It is a SWING bridge — it rotates on its center axis to pass tall boat traffic, opening on request by marine radio, reported at roughly 20 openings a day in summer; the full cycle from signal change to traffic moving again runs about six minutes. Summer weekend backups typically begin late morning and can add 15 minutes just to cross the bridge and reach Middle Street. Locals time trips to arrive before about 10:30 a.m. and leave after about 6:30 p.m. Continuing past Sullivan's Island, SC 703 crosses Breach Inlet onto Isle of Palms and meets the IOP Connector.
