Isle of Palms Dog Rules and Dog Permit — IOP Police Department

Dogs are welcome on the IOP beach at all times, subject to rules. OFF-LEASH WINDOWS: April 1 through September 14, 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; September 15 through March 31, 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. During those windows the owner must have the leash in hand, the dog under voice command, and must clean up excrement. At ALL other times dogs must be on a leash and under complete control, including in the water. Every dog that lives in or visits the City must be vaccinated against rabies and wear a metal license tag on its collar bearing the name of the vaccinating veterinarian; the owner must have a valid rabies certificate readily available at all times. An annual IOP dog permit is issued FREE by the Police Department at 30 J.C. Long Blvd, 843-886-6522 — residents are encouraged to get one because it helps return lost dogs. Dog waste bag receptacles are at most public beach access paths. Inside Isle of Palms County Park, dogs must be leashed and under control at all times regardless of the city off-leash hours.
