The mainland jumping-off point for Cape Romain NWR and the only practical way to reach Bulls Island without your own boat. Facilities: a public boat ramp, a fishing pier and parking, all free — the refuge charges no entrance fee. You can fish and crab from the Garris Landing pier without going to the island. Pets are not allowed on the pier or on the refuge islands. Ferry: Coastal Expeditions is the refuge's contracted concessioner and the only outfitter authorized to carry visitors to Bulls Island; it runs a scheduled ferry from Garris Landing and reservations are required. Ferry days are limited (commonly Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) and the schedule is seasonal — verify the current sailing days, times and fare with the concessioner before you drive out, since neither the days nor the ticket price is published by FWS. Coastal Expeditions also runs guided kayak trips, other refuge tours, three-day weekend ecology and history excursions with lodging in the 1927 Dominick House on Bulls Island, and a Lighthouse Island tour offered only six times a year. Refuge brochures and maps are available at kiosks at Garris Landing and on Bulls Island, and at the Sewee Center and refuge HQ on US-17.
