The Auditor calculates, creates and mails tax bills for all real and personal property, processes the Homestead Exemption, and handles motor vehicle, watercraft and aircraft assessments. Homestead Exemption (Auditor, not Assessor): Homestead Representative (843) 958-4220; the county publishes that applicants must be age 65 or older, totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind; hold fee simple or partial title; have been an SC legal resident for one year prior; and have approved 4% legal residence status — the benefit "excludes the first $50,000 from the fair market value."
