Town Council — structure, elections and meeting schedule

STRUCTURE (Code of Ordinances, Chapter 30): § 30.01 — "The form of government for the municipality shall be the Council form provided in S.C. Code § 5-11-10 et seq. as amended." § 30.02 — "The Council shall be composed of a Mayor and eight Councilmembers who shall be elected from the municipality at large." (nine seats total; no districts). § 30.03 — eligibility requires being a qualified elector of the state and county and residing in the municipality at least six months immediately preceding the election. § 30.04 — "The Mayor and Councilmembers shall hold office for the period of four years or until their successors shall be duly elected and qualified," and "All Councilmembers elected in regularly scheduled general elections will have terms of four years." MEETINGS: § 30.21 — "Regular meetings of the Town Council shall be held each month of the year in the Mount Pleasant Town Council Chambers. The regular monthly meeting shall be held on the second Tuesday of the month, and shall be called to order at 6:00 p.m., unless otherwise determined by Town Council," with location/time changes permitted only on advance majority vote at a regular meeting plus public advertisement. The town's Clerk of Council FAQ repeats: meetings are "scheduled on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers, Municpal Complex, 100 Ann Edwards Lane" [sic]. AGENDAS: published in the Agenda Center at tompsc.com/AgendaCenter; the Clerk's FAQ states Town Council agendas are posted online on the Friday before the monthly meeting, and minutes are in the Archive Center.
