Post-Hurricane-Ian remapping — no preliminary Charleston County maps on file

Checked specifically on 2026-09-04. Hurricane Ian's final landfall was near Georgetown, South Carolina at 2:05 PM EDT on September 30, 2022 with 85 mph maximum sustained winds (National Hurricane Center); NHC reports maximum inundation of 4 to 6 ft above ground in Georgetown and Horry counties, east of the landfall point — not Charleston County. A direct query of the FEMA Map Service Center product database for Charleston County (45019) and for the Town of Mount Pleasant (community 455417) returned NO preliminary FIRM, preliminary FIS or preliminary FIRM database products of any kind; the response contained no PRELIMINARY product category at all. The FEMA Community Status Book for South Carolina, generated 09/04/2026, likewise shows Charleston County's current effective map date unchanged. SCDNR — FEMA's Cooperating Technical Partner for South Carolina since 1999 — states on its Mapping page that it 'currently has 8 county-wide studies in progress along with 7 watershed based studies' but does NOT name them, so I could not confirm from a primary source whether Charleston County is among the eight. FINDING: no Ian-driven remapping of Charleston County has reached preliminary status. This is an absence of evidence, not proof a restudy is not underway internally. The place to watch is the SCDNR Flood Risk MAP Progress Site and the SC Flood IMPACT viewer (scfloodimpact.com), which SCDNR says will 'toggle between the preliminary and effective maps' if preliminary maps exist.
