Elevation Certificates — the Town of Mount Pleasant holds them on file

The Town of Mount Pleasant states on its Flood Protection page: 'Elevation Certificates -- These are maintained on file by the Town and are required to be submitted for all structures built in Special Flood Hazard Areas.' So for an existing Mount Pleasant house built in an SFHA, ask the Town's Building Inspection Division (843-884-5184, Municipal Complex, 100 Ann Edwards Lane) before paying a surveyor. The Town does not publish a research fee for this on the page. Contrast the County, which serves different jurisdictions: Charleston County Building Inspection Services 'maintains copies of flood elevation certificates for all new construction and substantially improved structures' for Unincorporated Charleston County, Awendaw, Hollywood, McClellanville, Meggett, Ravenel, Rockville and Seabrook Island — Mount Pleasant is NOT on that list — and says 'If your structure was constructed in one of these jurisdictions since late 1970's, the Building Inspection Services Department may have an elevation certificate on file.' The County requests come to FloodServices@CharlestonCounty.org with the address and/or TMS number; the County's own page states in one FAQ that 'a researching fee will apply' and in the parallel FAQ omits any fee — the two County FAQs conflict on that point.
