Town of Mount Pleasant, jointly funded by the Town, Charleston County School District and the County's Transportation Sales Tax program. Four phases, one per approach: (1) northbound US 17 left-turn lane extended 250 feet; (2) Venning Road resurfaced and restriped to add a separate right-turn lane with 70 feet of storage, replacing a shared through/right lane; (3) southbound US 17 splitter island removing the right turn from signal operation to a yield movement, allowing the stop bar to move closer and add left-turn storage; (4) Mathis Ferry Road median removed and rebuilt, extending the dual left turn by 200 feet. Schedule as published: design complete May 2023, construction began September 2023, complete March 2024. Cost: design $113,738.00, construction $843,170.00. Charleston County separately lists "US-17 at Mathis Ferry" as a complete intersection project. Checked Sept 4, 2026.
