Population: current estimate, 2020 count, and the decade growth rate

CURRENT OFFICIAL ESTIMATE: 95,469 as of July 1, 2025 — U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2025 Subcounty Population Estimates (file sub-est2025.csv), Mount Pleasant town, South Carolina, place FIPS 45-48535. The same series gives 91,244 (2020), 92,945 (2021), 94,709 (2022), 95,549 (2023) and 95,987 (2024), with an April 1, 2020 estimates base of 90,997. Note that the 2025 estimate is 518 LOWER than the 2024 estimate — a decline of about 0.5% in the Bureau's own series, the first year-over-year drop in the decade. DECENNIAL COUNTS: 90,801 on April 1, 2020 (2020 Census P.L. 94-171 Redistricting Data Summary File, South Carolina, summary level 160, table P1), and 67,843 on April 1, 2010 (Census Bureau subcounty estimates file sub-est2019_45.csv, CENSUS2010POP field). DECADE GROWTH 2010-2020: +22,958 residents, or +33.8% — an average of about 2.96% per year compounded. Growth from the 2020 census count to the July 1, 2025 estimate is +4,668, or +5.1% over roughly five years. For context, the extension ordinance recites that the Town's own target under the 600-permit cap is 'a more manageable average annual growth rate of approximately 2.1%,' and its findings table records annual increases in dwelling units of 1,232 (2013), 1,142 (2014), 1,003 (2015), 1,377 (2016) and 1,218 (2017) at growth rates of 3.84%, 3.43%, 2.91%, 3.88% and 3.23%.
