Isle of Palms Connector (SC 517 / Clyde Moultrie Dangerfield Highway)

SCDOT-owned and maintained; 11,700 feet total length crossing the Intracoastal Waterway; built 1990-1993. No widening or replacement project is programmed. The most recent change is SCDOT's 2021 restriping under its Complete Streets Departmental Directive: per the City of Isle of Palms' published summary of SCDOT's plans, the center median was reduced from 10 feet to 4 feet, the existing pedestrian lane widened from 4 feet to 5 feet, a 4-foot-6-inch bicycle lane installed with a 3-foot-6-inch buffer from the travel lane, on both sides of the bridge, and the speed limit reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph. SCDOT began the marking work February 17, 2021, targeting completion by mid-March 2021. SCDOT later ran a public survey (2023) on possible further changes to the connector's lane configuration; no adopted follow-on project has been published. Charleston County records the "IOP Connector Restriping" and the "IOP Connector / Rifle Range Road" intersection project as complete. Checked Sept 4, 2026.
