THE PIER SERIES HAS BEEN RENAMED. The long-running shag dance night on the Mount Pleasant Pier, formerly "Shaggin' on the Cooper," is now called DANCING ON THE COOPER. It is run by Charleston County Parks, not the Town of Mount Pleasant, and is grouped with the Folly Beach Pier's Moonlight Mixers under the agency's "Pier Dances" banner. It runs on SELECT FRIDAY NIGHTS, not every Friday. Gates/doors open 7:00pm and live music plays until 10:00pm, with open-air dancing on the covered pier over the Cooper River. IT IS NOT FREE: $10 per person in advance, $15 per person day-of if not sold out; children 3 and under free and do not need a ticket. Beverages are sold on site and the River Watch Cafe and Gift Shop sells food and snacks; outside food and alcohol are prohibited. Parking at the pier is free but limited and first-come, first-served. 2026 season, all Fridays: April 24 - Gino Castillo & the Latin Cowboys (salsa and jazz); May 15 - Vinyl Daze (classic oldies, beach music, rock 'n' roll); June 12 - Shem Creek Boogie Band (classic oldies and beach music); July 24 - Tommy & the Chucktown Players (soul, rock, funk); September 11 - Cooper River Band (hits from the 1970s to today). Information line 843-795-4386.
