Starfish Swim School - Mount Pleasant Recreation Department swim lessons

Group swim instruction from infants through adults on a leveled progression; ages listed are guidelines and participants must pass swim and safety benchmarks before advancing. Levels and published fees: Star Babies, 6 months to 3 years, $40 resident / $55 non-resident, four 30-minute lessons, one instructor per class, one parent per child, Saturdays only, covering water entry and exit, water safety, water adjustment, kicking, blowing bubbles and breath control. Star Tots, ages 3-4 only, $40 resident / $55 non-resident, four 30-minute lessons on Saturdays or six 20-minute lessons on weekdays. Beginner (White/Red Stage), age 5+, $50 resident / $80 non-resident, four 45-minute Saturday lessons or six 30-minute weekday lessons, adding floating and some independent swimming. Intermediate (Yellow Stage), age 5+, same price and format, covering front and back floats, streamline positions, forward movement and direction change. Advanced (Green Stage), age 5+, same price and format, covering treading water, survival float, diving, submersion with side glide recovery and side glide with a 1-2-3 breath pattern. Stroke School (Blue Stage), age 5+, must pass Green/Advanced, same price, four 45-minute Saturday lessons only, teaching all four competitive strokes. The department also runs private swim lessons, a competitive swim team, water aerobics, the W.A.T.E.R. Program, aquatic summer camps and lifeguard certification. Pool schedules are subject to change due to a lifeguard shortage; the indoor pool closes during lightning.
