City beach rules, enforced by IOP Police, non-emergency 843-886-6522. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the beach. Also banned: single-use plastic bags, plastic straws, polystyrene (Styrofoam) coolers, cups and food containers, and balloons — verbal warning may be given, then a $100 fine per offense. Smoking and vaping are prohibited on the beach and on beach access paths; fine $10 to $25. Motorized vehicles including golf carts are not allowed on the beach; electric vehicles including e-bikes and electric skateboards are not allowed on the beach between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Jet skis and motorboats may not operate in designated swimming areas. Overnight storage of beach equipment (tents, chairs, coolers, toys) is prohibited and unattended property left after sunset may be removed and disposed of; no overnight sleeping on the beach. Fill in any holes dug in the sand before leaving. Gatherings of more than 50 people on public property, including the beach and access paths, require a permit. Commercial business on the beach is prohibited. Fireworks and open fires are strictly prohibited. Sea turtles and dunes are protected — use the designated access paths. Note: the City does not staff lifeguards on the municipal beach; the only lifeguarded stretch is inside Isle of Palms County Park.
