Town License Requirements page: "Contractor Licensure status is verified through the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR). Some types of businesses such as Electricians, Plumbers, General Contractors, Residential Builders, HVAC, and others will require proof of a current South Carolina Contractor's License before a Permit can be issued. In addition, Residential Builders are required to hold a current bond on file with LLR. Failure to update your License and/or Bond will result in the delay of permit issuance and may interfere with current permitted jobs." Plus: "Any contractor doing work in the Town of Mount Pleasant must obtain a business license" — Business License Department (843) 849-2786. To check a contractor's state license the Town gives (803) 896-4696 or Contact.RBC@llr.sc.gov. Statutory reference given by the Town: S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 59. A permit application may be filed with the contractor listed as "TBD," but "a permit will NOT be issued until the selected contractor has been added to the project" — except under the Building Permit Allocation System, where "Applications with the Contractor listed as to be determined will not be accepted." To change contractors mid-job, a written note from the property owner and/or contractor of record releasing the contractor must be submitted before the new contractor can be added.
