Founded 1773 and described as America's first museum. Hours Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm. Reported admission: adults 18+ $15, youth 13-17 $12, children 3-12 $6, children under 3 free, with a senior discount. The Museum also operates two historic houses that can be ticketed separately or as a combination ticket sold at the Meeting Street desk: the Heyward-Washington House (late 18th-century home of signer Thomas Heyward Jr., where George Washington stayed during his 1792 Charleston visit) and the Joseph Manigault House (Federal-style, furnished with American, English and French pieces of the early 19th century). Family programming includes toddler days, kids tours, hands-on history workshops and family events posted on the museum's program calendar.
