South Carolina hurricane evacuation zone system (statewide structure)

Zones are lettered and assigned county by county, not uniformly statewide. The current zones come from the 2024 South Carolina Hurricane Evacuation Study (HES), announced by SCEMD on May 8, 2024. Annex C to the SC Hurricane Plan (edition dated May 2026, checked 2026-09-04) states the zones are drawn to "Reduce over-evacuation by refining evacuation zones to be primarily based on storm surge risk," that "River flooding may also be considered," and that planners sought to "Avoid creating 'evacuation zone islands'." Letters in use by county under Annex C: Horry A-C; Georgetown A-C; Berkeley B, D, E, F; Dorchester D, E, F; Charleston A, B, C; Colleton A-C; Beaufort A; Jasper A-C. There is no statewide Zone D/E/F in Charleston County — Charleston County has only A, B and C. SCEMD publishes on hurricane.sc that "actual storm conditions may require changes to the planned evacuation zones."
